Bordered by the United Arab Emirates, the Oman boasts a wonderful range of surroundings. Its dry terrain is in complemented by ‘wadis’ (pockets of lush valleys) that are irrigated using the traditional ‘falaj’ method.

Explore the rugged mountains or enjoy the 1,000 miles of untouched beaches. Visit traditional Omani villages or discover the capital of Muscat, which is a cosmopolitan city marrying Arabian seafaring history with contemporary architecture. Muttrah Souk is a lively shopping destination where you can acquire local artefacts, or observe the trading in full flow. Get ready to bargain for your desired items that could include silver jewellery and delicate, embroidered fabric.

For a taste of Oman’s past, visit the 17th century Jabrin and Nizwa forts. For a desert experience, spend the night in a Bedouin tent. When you have dined on fantastic barbeque food under the stars, be enchanted by the beautiful music of the oud (a traditional string instrument).

With the choice of diving, snorkelling, cave exploring and rock-climbing, Oman is the unexpected ideal holiday location.
